Since COVID-19 has halted all events, we’ve decided to share how our customers are continuing their important work!
Who is the Children’s Science Center?
The Children’s Science Center’s mission is to instill a love of learning STEM by providing unique ways to create and inspire – now virtually! Their target audiences are children ages 2-12 and their families through STEM programming and exhibits at the Children’s Science Center Lab. They also have a robust community outreach program that they take to schools, libraries, STEM festivals, etc.
How do they do it?

Children’s Science Center’s mission is 50% funded by the operations at the Lab in Fairfax, Virginia, and 50% through fundraising events. They quickly moved to free online programming through YouTube and our social channels by creating videos and one-page activity sheets for parents to enjoy with their children. They also set up Virtual Camp for children in grades 3-6 who meet in a secured zoom room twice a day with two of their STEM educators for games, fun, learning, and a daily challenge all from the distance and safety of their home.
What does reopening (if and when) look like?
ChildSci doesn’t know exactly what their re-opening will look like. They are planning several scenarios where there is time and reduced visitation capacity. They hope to continue offering their in-person summer camps but also planning to add summer virtual camps.
