Discover Your Data

Today you will discover what you already know about your donors and uncover important insights to advance your prospect research outcomes. First, you will compile all of the data you have about your donors. Then, you will format, or clean, it so that you may achieve more using what you already have at your fingertips.

This information will help you better understand the donors you already have so you can find others who look just like them.

Today you will:

Look within your CRM or organization’s spreadsheets to identify and collect the data you have about your donors.

Format and “clean” your data to ensure it is easy to read and use.

DAY 3: ADD DONOR ATTRIBUTES

Add Donor Attributes

Today you will explore the different attributes you may add to your donor and donation data that will allow you to get to know your donors better. By adding these additional data points, you are transforming your data set to paint a more complete picture of your donors.  

This allows you to simplify your prospect research and focus on who is most attracted to your cause.

Determine which donor attributes your team must identify to achieve your goals.

Explore the options you have to add these attributes to each of your contacts.

DAY 4: GET TO KNOW YOUR DONORS

Get to Know Your Donors

You can’t conduct effective prospect research without being able to dissect your contact list into donor categories. By defining the segments that matter most to your organization, you can discover each one’s specific persona and explore insights into how each group of donors behaves.

Segmentation, and ultimately prioritization of your donors, is key to increasing your donations. It gives you the ability to find and target specific donor prospects with the personas of your most desired donor groups.

Today you will:

Identify the donor segments that matter most to your organization.

Explore the data that you have on these individuals to understand the overall persona of each segment identified.

DAY 5: IDENTIFY LIFETIME VALUE DONORS

Identify High Lifetime Value Donors

Today, you will identify your high lifetime value donors, otherwise known as donors who give the most over time. By identifying this segment of donors, you can examine the persona and insights about these donors to better understand how these donors behave.

This research will show you what these donors look like so you may attract more donors like them through your outreach.

Today you will:

Examine your donation history to determine your donors’ individual donor lifetime value and prioritize by value.

Determine the threshold for total lifetime value that you want your donors to be above.

Use the persona of your lifetime value donors to find others with the same attributes throughout your prospecting efforts.

DAY 6: SHARE YOUR INSIGHTS

Share Your Insights

Your team won’t achieve its goals if you are all on different pages of the playbook. Today, you will collect the attributes you have discovered about your donors by segment and share them with your team by creating a report with your collected data.

Today you will:

Use the data you collected and segmented to create reports telling the best story about each segment.

Share this report with your team so that you may collaborate and make decisions together.

Take Action

It’s time to take action! Today, you will combine your goal from day 1 with the important donor attributes defined in day 3, the segment and lifetime value personas defined in days 4 & 5, and the reporting insights in day 6 to make your next move with confidence. Explore the many options available as you embark on the right path to achieve your defined success.

Select your best plan of action by combining everything you learned about your donors this week.

Act on it! Set your plan in place.

Evaluate and iterate. As you continue your outreach, consistently evaluate your actions and adjust your plan as needed.
